What About Your Rights

I keep hearing stupid people saying it is their right to violate Shelter In Place orders. They do not. The government has the right to enforce those orders and if they had a brain in their head instead of up their posterior they would have figured it out already. Every state and the federal government reserves the right to enforce those kinds of orders and policies in times of emergency and this fits, if anything does.

But forget that for a moment. I know that there are people who are stupid and selfish enough to believe that they have the right to do this anyway. Why? Because they are so damned selfish that they cannot see beyond their own wants – not needs, wants.

As I said before, I kind of understand businesses opening. I disagree but I can understand their desire; they want to save their business to the detriment of both their health and the health of others. But the ones who are just wanting to get out because it is their right. My God, what is really wrong with these people. They want a haircut, a perm, a drink in a bar, a meal in a restaurant, or a day at the beach. And they are willing to risk their lives, the lives of their loved ones, and the lives of anyone they encounter to exercise that right.

Am I being too dramatic? Not in the least. If these idiots can read or listen to the radio or watch TV they can see that where the restrictions are being lifted Covid-19 cases are rising and people are dying. What if you were the one who died because someone wanted to get a haircut? What if your momma died because someone wanted to go to the beach for the day? What if your baby died because you wanted a restaurant meal or wanted to get your damned nails done?

This is what is happening. I would not have imagined this happening in the droves that it is happening before now. I would never have imagined masked, camouflaged airheads invading public buildings to exercise their rights to congregate as they see pleased; exercising their right to place themselves in harms way and exercising their right to possibly kill others.

But then again, I did not understand anyone believing Trump’s campaign in 2016 or that he has any support now. I am not saying these Covid-19 scofflaws are all Trumpettes because I know better. I know some of the stupid scofflaws who are not Trumpettes. But it does speak to the underlying sense of selfishness that is endemic in this country that Trump did tap into. And one cannot help but notice that the rise in Covid-19 illnesses and deaths are in areas where the restrictions were first loosened and, equally, where Trump was successful.

  • Aw, this was a very nice post. Taking the time and actual effort to produce a top notch article… but what can I say… I put things off
a whole lot and don’t seem to get nearly anything done.
