We Made Nixon

The making of Little Boots into a President has caused me to become very introspective.  I mean I have spent a lot of time reflecting on the whys and wherefores that allowed that POS to become President.

Most everyone case list the reasons.

  1. Russian Intervention.
  2. Negative Attitude of Hillary Clinton that she could not overcome.
  3. Phony e-mail scandal against Hillary Clinton.
  4. Bernie Sander’s unwillingness to gracefully concede.
  5. Bernie Backers spreading lies.
  6. Bernie Believers refusing to change their allegiance or vote at all.

On that last issue in particular, I see some parallels for 1968.  As much as I fail to admit it, the youth of our generation were just as disenchanted as this generation.  That they were supporting Bernie Sanders who, in retrospect, seems to be found wanting in so many, many ways and our generation was supporting Bobby Kennedy is not the issue.  What is the issue is the disenchantment when the young voters did not “get their way”.

This generation did not protest at the Democratic National Convention like our generation did,  That turned off voters and turned voters to Nixon.  In some ways, our generation was probably more responsible for that POS’s election that this generation was responsible for Little Boot’s.

The correlation that does exist however, it both generations either did not vote or threw away their vote by voting for a third-party candidate.  I have heard the refrain that said third-party candidate represents their beliefs, but that is bullshit and even the densest amongst them knows that (I take that back kind of – some of them might really be dense enough to believe that crap).

In reality, in 1968 the non-voters and third-party voters did not affect the election.  The summer protests, on the other hand, probably did.  In 2016 it likely did.  it was so damned close, any one of the six issues above that had not happened Hillary Clinton would be President.  Any damned fool would know it.  Little Boots doesn’t, but like I said …
