We are only halfway through the public hearings into the January 6th, 2020 Terrorist Attack on the United States Capitol Building. Yes, I know some people refer to it as a protest or an invasion or an insurrection but let us be honest it was a terrorist attack, pure and simple.
What have we seen so far?
One, the genesis of this attempt was based on the false claim by Donald J. Trump that he won the election even though those around him had told him otherwise. Furthermore, phone calls and actions by Donald J. Trump seem to indicate that he knew he had lost the election.
Two, Donald J. Trump actively attempted to overthrow the election by suborning illegal activity by state election officials in several states.
Three, Donald J. Trump tried to intimidate his Vice President to nullify the election results.
Four, when all else failed, Donald J. Trump and his minions fostered, promoted, and incited the terrorist attack. Some may say this is not a court of law, but the preponderance of evidence shows us this is so.
If it were limited to 2020, it would be horrendous enough.
The fact that the POS is a viable candidate in 2024 is deplorable. The takeaway I have had from the beginning seems to be heavy handed and unnecessarily strong but I cannot find a reason to deviate from it.
A) The Capitol police should have fired on the terrorists. I know they did not have orders to do so and most of the terrorists were unarmed. However, they were terrorists, they had breached the Capitol, and they were openly threatening the lives of the Vice President of the United States, the United States Senators, and Members of the United States House of Representatives. I know it is hindsight, but that is what should have been done.
B) The survivors should have been tried for treason with the death penalty on the table. These are flipping terrorists. Trying them for any other crime should be a negotiated plea deal. Treason should be on the table for every last SOB who participated.
C) Donald Trump’s actions challenging the election was acceptable, until such time he was proven wrong. Then, by law and by practice he needed to concede like a decent human being. Instead, he actively and openly incited the actions of the terrorists. This should be deemed treason as well, with the death penalty on the table,
Strong – yes. Wrong – no.
Note: if it were a foreign individual doing the same thing, with foreign followers we would be hanging all of the asses on Capitol Mall.
