To Vegetarians And Vegans

First off, I have nothing against vegetarians or vegans.  More power to you.  It matters not why you have made the decision to eschew meat, or in the case of vegans, any animal-based products.  To each his or her own.

It can be health-based, real or perceived.  It can be morality-based, once again real or perceived.  It can be based on religious edict, as in the cases of Hindus and certain Seventh Day Adventists. It can be nothing more than a matter of personal preference.

The good thing, especially for vegans, is that in recent years products have become rather universally available whereby one can satisfy the necessary dietary needs, in particular for complex proteins, without having to resort to animal-based products.  The mighty soybean comes to mind first.

As I said, I respect you decision.  I do not disparage you decision.  In addition, if you come to my house to dine, I will do anything within reason to accommodate your dietary needs.  I find it ironic however, if you are one of those who wishes to have faux meat products that attempt to imitate the look and/or taste of “real meat”.  If you want the look and taste of real meat, go for it!  Quite the hypocrisy.  Leave the faux meat for us meat eaters when visiting vegans and vegetarians.

Additionally, do not proselytize to me.  You have your reasons.  I respect them.  I respect that they work for you, but they do not work for me.  I know most of the arguments and the ones I do not know, I probably am not interested in.  Keep in mind, a quick examination of human teeth shows that we are omnivores and not herbivores.  Just think about it; as a vegetarian/vegan, you probably spend an inordinate amount of time and effort to insure that you have a balanced diet because of the limited or lack of animal products in your diet.  That in and of itself should tell you something.  Normal it is not.  That you have chosen to live this way is fine.  That you have chosen to expend the effort is fine.  It just is not for me.  Do not try to convert me.  I am not buying it.

  • Woah! I’m really digging the template/theme of this website. It’s simple, yet effective. A lot of times it’s hard to get that “perfect balance” between user friendliness and visual appearance. I must say you’ve done a excellent job with this. Also, the blog loads super quick for me on Opera. Superb Blog!
