The Potato

Showing my age but when I was growing up there were two kinds of potatoes: Spuds and New Potatoes. Oh, you saw red potatoes or yellow potatoes (called Swedes for some reason) once in a while, but it was someone’s garden.

Now things are different. Everyone touts Yukon Gold for everything. Don’t get me wrong, I like them. I like them a lot.

But when you tell me they are BETTER for potato salad or mashed potatoes, I am probably showing my age as I said at the beginning: Spuds are better.

For the uninformed: Spuds are Idaho, Burbank, New England potato. Not waxy, starchy, tasty, darn good, and what I grew up on.
