Today we had a conversation with our builder who has 3 year old twins. He mentioned that he spent some of the money he made on the build on buying two iPads for his twins because they were fighting over sharing the iPad with the their older sister.
Now you know I have a tendency to be a little sarcastic and have a jaundiced outlook. I usually also think that parents have a problem with overindulging their children. So you would probably think that I would be ready to go on a riff on him getting the iPads for his children.
Wrong!
Technology is part of their lives, even at that age. It is not even an option. The only issue is how soon you can afford to get it into their little, itty-bitty, hands. The only thing that I may disagree on is the brand of choice but that is really a matter of preference. Then it is simply a matter of controlling the amount of time they use it and the content on the tablet.
A child today cannot begin too soon. This is not the 1970’s, heck it is not even the 2000’s. It is not an option. I was exposed to the a computer in the fall of 1969 and that dude took up a whole room. Now they are everywhere, they are small, and everyone of every age needs to use them.
The only exception on the technology access for the young is access to a cell phone. This is not the place to discuss this, except to say that the phone is not part of the technology phase that needs early access.
