Shipping and Handling

Everything that seems to be sold today on Television, or for that matter in magazines and newspapers, has “Shipping and Handling” added.  It is always mentions in smaller print or on the second page or in some other innocuous method.  Sometimes the amount of the Shipping and Handling is not even mentioned.  It almost seems that it is an afterthought to the price of the product.  Try to keep from paying it however.  See how soon you will get your gadget or widget without forking over your Shipping and Handling.

I suspect that Shipping and Handling is the actual charge for the advertising, warehousing, and shipping of the product.  The “price” is what the seller actually gets.

In any case, the selling price is B.S.  The real price should include the Shipping and Handling and any advertising should include that cost.  The only exception would be if the shipping charges were calculated at the time of shipment and based upon the total weight/size of the shipment and the distance to be shipped.  In other words, actual cost.

Until then, Shipping and Handling add-on is just another term for Bait and Switch pricing.
