It now seems pretty clear that the Russians were actively involved in covertly influencing the 2016 election.
First by pretending to be backers of Bernie Sanders in order to spread negative information about Hillary Clinton to weaken her primary run even though Bernie really did not have a real chance of winning the nomination.
Then, after the conventions, continuing to peddle anti-Hillary propaganda in order to support Trump’s run for the White House. This resulted in alienating pro-Bernie voters and undecided voters to vote for Trump, not vote, or vote for third party candidates.
Makes it pretty clear who the Russian Government was worried about. It was certainly not Donald Trump.
BTW: Interesting footnote: the first time we find the communist government trying to influence our political process it is to elect the “anti-commie” conservative party candidate.
