Rush Limbaugh

In case anyone cares; Rush Limbaugh is a liar. He has always been a liar and he thrives in his lies.

When he started broadcasting, I actually listened to him. He was articulate and glib and very professional as what he did. Let’s face it; he was entertaining. In a couple of weeks, I discovered that his entertainment had a bite to it. He had a mean streak a mile long and he would do anything to promote his political agenda, most notably making up “fact” (a.k.a., lie) at the drop of a hat. One of his little tricks at the time was to rattle papers in the microphone just before he would announce an outrageous lie to support his stand, especially when he got called on something. Keep in mind this was in the days when he got people who were not so carefully screened, thus he go people who were able to skewer him and were not buffoons in their own right.

It did not take me long to abandon that station. He was vicious, cruel, and he lied to support his agenda. I would occasionally drop in on him after that and he seemed to get worse as time went by. The worse part of this was that his popularity seemed to grow and grow. Not to mention his influence. It is no accident that over the years, the Conservatives of this country have started to expand their lies and sharpen their tongues. They are taking their cue from this guy.

Do not get me wrong. He is not a buffoon. He is not an idiot. He is very good at what he is doing. He is very glib and very articulate. But he has no ethics when it comes to his agenda. You think I am wrong? Keep in mind how he was able to quote facts and figures when he was effectively blind. Was he being fed by a earpiece? Probably, it worked for Ronny. But that was not the whole picture. He was so good at lying that he did not miss a beat.

The worse part of this is that he has become a icon of the Conservatives of America and a back-end political advisor. Be afraid – be very afraid.

Special Note

There is a local dude, Lars Larson who is, for want of a better word, Rush Lite. Ironically he started out his radio commentary as a fill-in for a liberal talk show. When that person moved on, he got the fulltime gig, along with anchoring a local news show. It did not take long for him to see the potential dollar signs of radio syndication and he got more and more strident. It wasn’t too long before he was given the choice between toning down the radio junk or giving up the TV anchor job (has to be factual and unbiased there – don’t you know). He left for fulltime radio and all bets were off. He got more and more radical to the point that I think he got syndicated but really he is somewhat of joke. He even started wearing a pistol on the air to support gun rights – I mean really. I hope it is stainless steel so that if he gets in a confrontation it will withstand the uric acid. Way to go Lars.
