RE-POSTED FROM RETIRED PAGE
On this Thanksgiving weekend, I am reminded of the one of the greatest myths in American history. That is the myth that the Pilgrims came to the new world for Religious Freedom. Nay, nay, I say. Look into the facts and you will see that they came to the new world for the freedom to practice THEIR religion.
If you want to see a case study in religious persecution, all you have to do is study the actions of the Massachusetts colony of the decades on anything that disagreed with them, and I am not merely talking about the Salem witch trials. Rhode Island was founded because of narrow-minded religious actions of the descendants of those self-same Pilgrims. And if you want persecution, talk to the Quakers about how they were treated.
I do not know of any religion yet that did not persecute any other religion that differed from them. The only reason we have freedom of religion in America today is because of a Constitutional Amendment, which was fostered in no small part by people who were fed up by religious zealots in their lives.
