You cannot be around any church for very long before you find out just how charitable most of them, and their parishioners, are. They often give well beyond what an outsider would imagine, well beyond what they are called upon to do, sometimes well beyond their own ability to provide comfortably. And they do it willingly, often without any personal reward except an occasional “thank you”.
Some of the things that churches commonly provide help for are:
- Feeding the poor – whether it be food banks, soup kitchens, food packages, meals to shut-ins, or food shipments to distressed areas churches jump in and provide sustenance for countless people on a daily basis.
- Shelter – from homeless shelters to rent assistance to helping to build low-income housing; once again churches are there.
- Clothing – clothing drives, handing out clean socks, coats, or blankets when it is cold. Need I say more.
- Medical Care – Churches once again step in. Medical assistance both domestically and internationally is provided free of charge for the most needy.
- Infrastructure – Churches even go farther. On missions they will help build infrastructure to better lives. Housing, wells, dams, and such to improve the lives of people in immeasurable ways.
- Education – Churches provide educational scholarships to allow young people to have advantages unavailable otherwise; often allowing them to give back to their community.
Having said all of this, I find it often troubling regarding these very same people and their political points of view. Look at the above issues and look at the way they vote. It does not take a rocket scientist to see that they support the political party that does not support those humanity-based actions and actively work against the political party that does support these actions.
And before you say they are being holistic and looking at the bigger picture, I beg to differ. It seems that you are objecting to one political party because they do NOT enforce their values on everyone else. The fact that they do not restrict freedoms, like the other party does, causes churches and church-goers to support a political party that is at odds with their charitable actions.
With havin so much content and articles do you ever run into any problems of plagorism or copyright infringement? My blog has a lot of unique content I’ve either created myself or outsourced but it looks like a lot of it is popping it up all over the web without my permission. Do you know any ways to help stop content from being ripped off? I’d certainly appreciate it.
You know I do not really know. I just do this for my own enjoyment and have never looked to see if someone is ripping me off. I guess I would be disappointed, and a little flattered.
