I am old enough that non-whites were called Colored, and other things not even said in polite and not so polite company anymore. Somewhere in the early to mid 1960’s most everyone learned that this was considered to be demeaning and inappropriate.
What is somewhat disconcerting is that several years ago, I started hearing the term “People of Color”. At first is was pretty rare. Now it seems almost ubiquitous in certain areas. However, it seems that unless you are a “People of Color” you best not be using this phrase.
Hmmm! Is that another example of wanting to be the same, and not the same, at the same damned time.
