NRA Ethics

In recent years, I purchased several firearms.  My wife and I like to target shoot.  In fact, at the same time we purchased the guns, we also joined a gun club.  This was easier said than done.

Why, you ask?  Because, I was insistent that I did not have to join the NRA in order to join the gun club.  Unbelievably, this IS a requirement for nearly all gun clubs.  I also avoided all offers for membership or mailing lists that would get me on the NRA’s radar.  It even dictated my choice on the brand of firearm on at least one occasion as a certain brand gives you an automatic NRA membership with purchase.

I simply do not want anything to do with that organization.  Why will be the subject on another posting.

But here is the interesting thing.  Every few months, I get mailings from the NRA offering me membership as a “fellow sportsman”.  Why is that interesting to me?  Because the NRA is so paranoid about the government not knowing about ownership of firearms and so righteous about protecting the privacy of gun owners.  However they are not so concerned about people’s privacy when it comes to getting more members.

Is NRA Latin for hypocrite?
