No Stuff

I was watching a show where a family of three that was looking to move because they “only” had a 1200 sf house and they were cramped.

I remembering growing up and we were a family of seven (7), often with at least one or two extended family members living with us, and living in houses that were around 1200 sf.  We lived in it fine.  Why – NO STUFF!

I am no different.  We are building a 2700 sf house with a 3-car garage for 2 people, moving from a 1900 sf house that had a two-story storage 200 sf storage shed.  Why?  The primary reason was because we could not climb stairs any more.  The reason for the move to a bigger house?  We have so damned much stuff.

I never thought I would have so much damned stuff.  My wife has a ton of stuff, but I am not a piker when it comes to stuff.  When did it happen?  I do not know.  It just happened.  And I am not alone.  I do not know how many people who do not have a ton of stuff.

We cannot live without our stuff.  If you think this is a riff on George Carlin’s “Stuff” routine, I admit a shout out to it.  But the reason his routine was so funny was because it was so true.  And just like he said, “Why is one person’s stuff another person’s shit?”
