I think that we are all aware of the situation in the last few years where new name combinations have been appearing.
I refer not to the ubiquitous band wagon jumping whereby everyone seems to fixate on a couple of baby names; can you say Brianne, McKenzie, Michaela anyone?
And I am not talking about the cutesy misspellings of names. I assume that is to give their child an unique step up in life and not to have them become the brunt of bullying. It is either that or they wanted to exercise their creativity. I am good with that although it does seem odd.
What I am referring to is the frequent use of “La”, “Da”, “Le”, and other prefixes to relatively commonplace names. With the risk of being called a racist; one cannot help but notice that it is most prevalent in the Black community. Some examples; La Michael, De Marco, Le James.
Do not get me wrong. I see nothing wrong with this. I just find it interesting more than anything else. I also, in my more sarcastic moments, cannot help but notice that you never see a Le Roy.
