Movie Remakes

Let us get right to the point.  Movie remakes suck.  Big time.  And I am not talking a little.  I am talking big time, big ways.

Oh yes, some have been successful.  Barbra Streisand’s  version of “A Star is Born” comes to mind.  Hell, it even won an Academy Award.  But look at it, it plain sucked.   Not to be outdone, they are remaking that turkey again and we are about to be blessed once again.  Enough already.

Most of them are even worse.  The “Longest Yard” was not a really good movie but it succeeded because of the acting, primarily Bert Reynolds.  But  have you seen that POS remake.  It is enough to want to make you hurl.  And the only way Adam Sandler is believable as a former pro quarterback is his personal wet dream.

Enough already.  Give it up.  If you have to rehash an old movie title have the decency to do what Steve Martin did with “Father of the Bride” and “Cheaper by the Dozen”.  Borrow the title and ignore original.

Side note:  TV remakes generally suck as well.  Exceptions seem to be when the bring back the original cast.  The only successful new remake that I can think of has been “Hawaii 50” and I think that, while they used the same location and names, they did a whole new show.  Now they are trying to redo Magnum P.I.  Good luck with that.  Old fans bought the show because of the personalities, now the location, not the scripts.  Unless there is a great revelation with the new cast – sayonara.
