More thoughts on the NRA

I, like so many others, have spent way, way too much about what the NRA used to be.  I have to forget that crap and come to the realization that it is nothing more or less than a gun lobby.

The remnants of its prior existence is masking this fact but does not change it.  The problem is that these remnants keep us, the public and government agencies, from easily ignoring and separating ourselves from them and their new role.  That is they continue to “support” their former benign roles of supporting hunting and shooting sports, as well as promoting gun safety.  In fact, the support of gun safety is the most troubling in both individual and government separation from the NRA; simply because the NRA has coopted gun safety training to the point that without them there is a void that cannot be easily filled.

But we must.  We cannot have a lobbyist being entrenched as a government authorized organization as they get quasi-authority that they should not have.  I am afraid I do not have a solution but I do not.  That does not change the fact that this needs to be solved.
