I have to admit that I do not know a whole lot about Kamala Harris. This despite the fact that she has been Joe Biden’s running mate for quite some time and now is the Vice President-elect. I know that she was the Secretary of State for the State of California and that she was supposed to have some chops in the legal profession.
But in reality one cannot help but consider her primary qualification for the Vice Presidency falls to the following;
- Female
- Black
- Asian
- Easy on the eyes
I know that this is being sarcastic and negative but I believe it to be true. Her ability to be a President-in-waiting is beside the point. Only time will tell. Keep in mind this kind of consideration is not unusual for Vice Presidents. Many have been chosen for reasons unrelated to their ability to lead. Some have risen to the occasion and some have not. Only time will tell with Kamala Harris.
On the other hand, as a symbol, on cannot underestimate the importance of her position in this administration. Short of Hillary Clinton’s election in 2016, nothing would have been as symbolically important for women. And one could argue there has never been aing as important for minority women.
