I watch cooking shows. What can I say, I like food. But one of the things that frosts me is when they are doing a restaurant review and they have some “white bread” person in an ethnic restaurant saying that the restaurant’s food is “so authentic”.
I mean really, how in the hell do they know? In a rare occasion, they may have been in Mexico (Ethiopia, Dubai, India, Sri Lanka, Puerto Rico, …) for a years or even months of their lives. Hell, they may even have gone to one of those places on vacation and left their tour group one day – who knows.
But, trust me. They are experts on authentic because the camera is in front of their fricking face and they want to get their stupid mug on film. They don’t know and they have no way of knowing. They may know that it is different, that it is unique, that they like it a whole lot; but as to its authenticity – no stinking way.
