I cannot be the only one

I know a lot of people have been thinking this but I also know no one has come out and explicitly said it so I am going to.

While there is not a one-to-one connection on an individual basis you cannot help but notice the following:

  • On a Regional Basis
  • On a State Basis
  • On a District Basis
  • On a County Basis

You can see the the correlation between low vaccination rates and high rates of people who 1) voted for Donald Trump and 2) still believe that he won in 2020.

As a Liberal, I have some pretty ornery opinions about the reasons for this correlation but I will let them go. What is ultimately obvious is that they are easily mislead and difficult to reason with. And, facts do not seem to be in their playbook.

I hesitate to add this final issue but I will: there is one other correlation as well. These areas are largely populated by people are generally self-described as Fundamentalist Christians. These people believe that Earth is 10,000 years old or less. Dinosaurs, geology, and archeology does not deter them. Once again, facts do not seem to be in their playbook.

So when did Christianity and Politics and Health become intertwined? That is not as easy a question to answer as you would think but therein lies much of the problem of getting more people vaccinated to keep them from killing themselves, each other, and the innocent.
