I always won

One way or another,I always seemed to win in the final rendering. Even when I was down, even when I seemed to be kicked in the teeth, I seemed to overcome it. I always thought it was intelligence or perseverance; maybe I secretly thought I was special. I just do not know. I know that ultimately, I always won everything that was really important.

But a year ago, I found out just how mortal I am. I had fought against health issues, I had stayed in Portland to make sure we had access to the best medical care in the state, I had bought the best health insurance, I had Sheltered in Place like a fanatic, I did every thing in my power to protect Sandy.

God said “it is time!” Her fistula failed on her birthday (9/19/21) and, because of the surgical interventions required, she ultimately died on 9/30/21.

God won!
