Hunting

I recently heard someone justify their acquisition of an assault weapon, specifically of the .223/5.56 caliber, for the use for hunting.

Now, let us look into this for a moment. The REAL performance parameters at 200, 300, 400 yards and beyond just are not there in relationship to so many other caliber of weapons that it is incredulous. Many of these alternative weapons are of comparable or lower prices and the ammunition is comparable or cheaper as well. And these weapons are far, far more accurate and powerful for hunting. This is especially true in the open spaces that are often the case in the Western United States.

Quite frankly, for many of the larger game animals, including larger species of deer, a hunter is severely under-gunned even within the so-called effective range of the .223/5.56 weapon.

In my opinion, to justify the acquisition of this assault weapon for hunting is specious. Either the gun owner is a liar, thinks we are stupid, or is personally as stupid as his/her detractors think he/she is.
