Halle Berry

I saw Halle Berry’s name on a headline today. I honestly do not know what it was about and really do not care. I have not cared a great deal about her for quite some time.

Why? Because of her self-serving, selfish attitude during her academy award win. Admittedly, it was a night for Black Americans to shine as I remember. And she made sure that that was the case, extoling her Black roots and all that it meant to her and her craft.

Fine. But the truth is somewhere in between. Her parents divorced when she was young and she is estranged from her Black father, to the point that in 1992 she was unaware if he was even alive. She was raised by her White mother.

I am glad that she has embraced her ethnic roots, but she has two sources of her roots. I remember her acceptance speech and she did not even thank or acknowledge her mother.

I guess her Blackness was more politically important that night. Fine.
