Female Transvestites

We all know about transvestites but our usual perception is regarding men who dress as women.  Generally the perception that this is of a sexual identification nature, whether the person wants to identify as a woman or whether the person garners some form of pleasure dressing as a woman.  I know that there are probably other issues that I am not addressing and I am not attempting to here.  I am merely pointing out that it is considered to be a form of sexual identification or sexual pleasure by most people.

But surprisingly, the female transvestite is much more common and seems to be much more accepted by society as a whole.  Admit it, you look at a woman dressed as a man and you think nothing of it.  Women wearing blazers, ties, pants, etc. have become ubiquitous throughout the American landscape.  It is most prevalent in the business and professional world.  Some can, and do, argue that it is a way of fitting in to the male dominated world.  But that does not change the fact that it is women dressing as men.

The other irony is that if a woman dresses as a man in “lower class” working attire (such as plaid shirts, jeans, and boots) then and only does this attire denote connotations of sexual identification, e.g. lesbianism.

Some may think I am harsh in calling women dressing as men female transvestites but I am a person who believes calling a spade a spade.
