Facts and Truth

Even when we can agree upon the Facts, we often do not/can not agree upon the Truth.

Case in point:  I had an acquaintance that told of the situation where Obama reacted to the Arrest Controversy of Henry Louis Gates, Jr.

To refresh people’s memory: Henry Louis Gates, Jr. returned home and, when his door was stuck, tried to force his own door open.  He was arrested.  As Dr. Gates was Black, Obama posited that Gates was probably arrested because of that fact, especially when Gates could prove he was in his own home.  Apparently Gates did respond in a rude tone which probably did exacerbate the issue.  However, Obama did say that as it was Gates’ home, he could see Gates’ position.  Ultimately, Obama brought both the officer and Gates to the White House for a “Beer Summit” and apparently everything was cleared up.

Now those are the facts in a nutshell.  Now my acquaintance states that this is just one example showing the Obama is a racist.  For the life of me, I do not get his premise.  He is adamant that it proves racism.  I have tried to get a clearer explanation from him, but other that challenging me to look at the dictionary I have no further guidance.  In his mind, it is racism.  I must admit, I still do not see it.  He is also adamant that this is just one example.  When I asked for another example, he changes the subject.  You will have to figure that one for yourself.  I know what I think.

Nevertheless, same facts, different truths.
