Deplorable

A few days ago, I saw an older woman wearing a shirt that said Deplorable Lives Matter.  I must admit that it caught me flatfooted.  I do not confront people in a public place anyway but even if I were so inclined, I would have been hard-pressed on how to hand this one.

Nevertheless, as this is my web site, I decided to try to break this down.  I know that the woman will never see it, nor any of her ilk.  In fact, maybe no one will but that has not stopped me yet.

First: Hillary Clinton was ill advised to call backers of Donald Trump deplorable. Several things were said on both sides that should have not been said.  The odd thing is that backers of Trump would embrace such a title and continue to do so.  Oddly, it seems to be a way or reminding their detractors of the more unsavory aspects of their figurehead.  But then again maybe that is what they want to do.

Second: Did anyone ever say his or her lives did not matter?  In fact, as generally middle-class while conservatives that make up the majority of Trump’s followers, they have had the better part of the deal in the judicial arena most everywhere in America for most of America’s history.

Third: This is an obvious slam at the Black Lives Matter movement.  It would seem to imply that the wearer, and others who wear this shirt, object to the marching against to mistreatment of Blacks by police.

This last issue is most troubling.  I can see where they might object to the publicity or maybe the associated violence from the marching.  However, I am troubled that they are objecting to the concern.  There is obvious proof that the police are treating Blacks poorly.  There is obvious proof that it this treatment is institutionalized.

Now if you do not think that Black Lives Matter and that there is a legitimate problem, you really earn the term DEPORABLE and it is not a cutesy term you give yourself – you earned it.
