Church and Republican Party

In recent years the Christian community seems to be inextricably tied to the Republican Party here in the United States.

What is interesting to me is that in most of the world organized religions are most often associated to more liberal political associations. Yes, I know that this does not hold true in Communist countries, but you still get my drift.

My main issue is, however, the vast difference between the social agenda of the Republican Party and the social contract that is part of my perception of Christianity.

I am sure that the church-bound Christians have an explanation, but it frankly eluded me.

As a thought: I am aware that there are multiple translations of the Bible and I know that they do not always agree in substance. Now I have several different Bibles that agree in regards to social conscience but maybe they are working on a different one.

If so, I will stick with mine.
