I am somewhat of a curmudgeon (say it ain’t so) and one of my pet peeves for a long, long time has been the stupid ass “Baby on Board” signs on automobiles. Now I give credit to the creators of the sign for coming up with an asinine product that made such a whole lot of money.
Why am I so hard on the sign, you ask? The purported purpose of the sign is to inform fellow drivers that there is a baby in said automobile and to advise those other drivers to drive more carefully. What a bunch of bullshit. If a driver is being a jackass or inconsiderate enough to endanger the drivers around them do you for one single solitary moment think that they will see the “Baby on Board” sign and say themselves “Gee, I am an asshole but that dude (or dudene) has got a itty bitty person in their car. I am going to change my ways and drive safely to protect the little one”? Yeh, right! That concept is so naïve, childish, and optimistic as to question the maturity of the individual putting the sign on their car.
Now, before you think I am being too harsh on these idiots, please consider your own actions (or should I say lack of actions) when you encounter a vehicle with one of these stupid signs. If you are honest, you do not do a damn thing different – just like everyone else. Me, I grumble about the sign but do nothing else.
Now why am I blogging about this right now?
Well today, I was behind a woman rocking a “Baby on Board” vehicle down the freeway, cutting in front of traffic, not signaling, and not maintaining a constant speed. As it turned out, she pulled off at an exit and as I passed her, she was talking on a cell phone. Not on a hands-free device but with the smart phone (misnomer in her case) slapped up to her right ear. Not only is it illegal in our state but, according to most studies, such activity is similar to driving under impairment (drugs or alcohol).
Therefore, we have a person who is stupidly went out and purchased a “Baby on Board” sign and put it on her car to implore those around her to drive more carefully because of her wee one but she could not put her phone down, thus give her child the equivalent of a ride with a drunk driver.
I was wondering if you ever considered changing the
structure of your blog? Its very well written; I love what
youve got to say. But maybe you could a little more in the way of content
so people could connect with it better. Youve got an awful
lot of text for only having 1 or two pictures.
Maybe you could space it out better?
As it is my personal site it suits me at the moment.
