Avoiding Shelter in Place

Recently I have ranted against various acts of avoiding Shelter in Place throughout the country.

The largest is based upon overt acts of various states to just never instituting plans or dropping them as of May 1st despite scientific evidence that shows that this is ignorant, stupid, and dangerous. Now I know that the motivation is to get people back to work regardless of the danger to others. It is not only the people who were opening businesses or their patrons who are the only Covid-19 patients but, instead anyone and everyone they come into contact with as well. And this is when science says it is not safe. I know people are hurting financially but I guess I personally have a higher value of life than that. Maybe it is just me.

Then there is the people who think it is their right to go out and about. I have even heard that it is their “Constitutional Right”. That no one has the right to stop them from congregating. This is the justification for such ignorant actions as not closing beaches in various areas throughout the country, usually supported by various elected officials in those municipalities. Why? Because they have the right to go out and about? Because they are tired of being cooped up? Seriously? I know that some people are selfish but they do not seem to get the picture. This is to protect not only themselves but everyone else.

Another one I hear about is rural areas who say that they have not been greatly affected by Covid-19. That there have been few, if any, cases. Might that not be evidence that Shelter in Place is working just as well as them being rural. Also, if they have no plans in place on how to test their people or how to react if they have an outbreak they can be overwhelmed very, very quickly. Some rural areas have 1, maybe 2 isolation bed and/or ventilators in their whole country for God’s sake. If one household comes down with an infection, there may be a decision on who to treat and who you have to let die. And all so you can open up your rural area because you “are not affected”. As an aside: I know of one county in Oregon (I believe it is Baker County) who has developed a plan that’s is under review with the State of Oregon right now that outlines their plan to start up right away. If they have all of the guideline issues addressed, they should be allowed to go forward. Just as I believe that the reduction of restrictions should be a rolling reduction based upon the least vulnerable areas to the most vulnerable. But not a damned free-for-all.

I guess what I am really trying to say with all of this is simple: QUIT BEING SO DAMNED-ASS SELFISH AND THINK OF OTHERS INSTEAD OF JUST YOURSELF. So many Americans have been and still are putting their asses on the line every day to try and save as many lives as they can. You can save lives by staying at home. DO IT.

    • Thank you for the compliment. Regarding the recommendations, I am not sure that I do. I guess that the big things are: 1) plan on what your are going to write about, 2) map out your main points, 3) write away, and 4) most importantly, care about what you write about.

    • While I was a programmer in my pre-retirement life, I had absolutely no knowledge on how to do this. That is why it is so basic even now. I did this by looking for a tutorial on the web and following step-by-step. The only thing I would suggest is that you do not get your site name until you go through the tutorial. I spent unnecessary money to change to the right service provider in this situation.
