Another Question

Right after the election, my brother posted a question on FaceBook asking for comments as to how people thought the election would have been if Bernie had been the candidate instead of Hillary.  Essentially, he was asking if Bernie would have won where Hillary had lost.

At that time, I commented that I thought that Bernie would not have done any better simply because, because he was so liberal he would not have attracted the middle of the road voters that apparantly abandoned reason and went over to the Trump side.  I honestly do not have much reason to change my opinion.  I could extrapolate more on this but that is neither here nor there.

One interesting thing that has come to mind of late though is a different question that was not asked at that time and I have not heard presented.

That question is: Would Hillary won the electoral vote if Bernie had not run?

I do not have a definitive answer but look at the compelling issues:

  • Money spent campaining against Bernie that could have been spent in the general election.
  • Vunerabilities presented by Bernie that need not have been presented in order to defeat Trump.
  • Need to placate Bernie and his followers kept it from completely being Hillary’s convention.
  • Bernie Backers who actively campaigned against Hillary who would either supported her or not participated.

In short, one can honestly consider the fact that Bernie Sanders may have helped Trump become president.  Now isn’t that a bitch.
